During the summer of 2018, Sonia Farmer enjoyed being a writer-in-residence at The Current Baha Mar Art Studios. Located in the Baha Mar resort, The Current is “a center for recognizing and supporting a strong creative community through captivating exhibitions, workshops and lectures, artist residencies and partnerships with local collectors.” She joined fellow writer-in-residence Yasmin Glinton and artists-in-residence Attila Fezst, John Paul Saddleton, and Kendra Frorup for the summer cycle of residencies which will culminate in a final exhibition in The Current gallery space this October.

While at The Current, Sonia worked on her upcoming collection of poetry, The Best Estimation in the World, which uses mistranslated interviews with employees in the service industry to examine the effect of tourism on Bahamian identity. For the open studios evening on August 8, she shared a keepsake interactive book with visitors, “A Secret for Service”, holding some of this poetry, as well as previous works and a book collaboration with Yasmin Glinton.
